Understand
Embarking on an unforgettable adventure to Machu Picchu is an experience that will leave you astounded. While it is entirely possible to explore this awe-inspiring destination without a guide or vehicle, we highly recommend making use of them, even if only for part of the seven-day journey. Please note that the Inca Trail section can only be undertaken with a guide and group, as the government does not permit solo travelers on this trail. Numerous companies offer a range of options for trips to Machu Picchu, spanning from budget-friendly to luxurious. However, all of these companies collaborate with local trekking companies based in Cuzco. Most operators allow you to mix and match various options, such as hiring a driver and guide, choosing budget or luxury accommodations, and more. If you prefer to have some independent exploring time, another viable alternative is to hire a taxi for the days you wish to venture out on your own. It's important to remember that due to the altitude, it's advisable not to exert yourself too much early on. It's a customary practice for guides and drivers to dine together with their clients, fostering a sense of bonding and camaraderie. However, if you prefer otherwise, kindly inform the tour operator in advance, and they will gladly make alternative arrangements for meals with your drivers and guides.
