emaii Kalvarija, located in Lithuania, is a popular Catholic pilgrimage site. With its rich history, this town has undergone various name changes, adding to its intrigue. Originally known as Garde in 1253, it later became known as the "New Jerusalem" due to the construction of the main church and road of the cross in the 17th century. Eventually, it was renamed Kalvarija after the hill's resemblance to the place where Jesus was crucified. However, to avoid confusion with another town, its name was changed again to emaii Kalvarija in the 20th century. During the Soviet era from 1964 to 1989, the town experienced further changes. It was renamed Varduva, and visiting pilgrims were persecuted by the KGB. Thankfully, in 1989, the town's historic name, emaii Kalvarija, was restored. This small town, steeped in religious significance and historical transformations, continues to attract visitors from far and wide.
