Salaj County is located in north-western Romania in between the Eastern Carpathians and the Apuseni Mountains. With an area of 3,850 square kilometers, it is bordered by Satu-Mare and Maramures counties to the north, Bihor County to the west and southwest, and Cluj County to the southeast. As the administrative residence of Salaj County, it holds a significant cultural, educational, and touristic importance. In the past, Salaj County served as a passage between Central Europe and Transylvania, known for the famous "salt road." It also has historical significance, being situated 8 kilometers away from the Roman camp of Porolissum, one of the strongest fortresses in north-western Roman Dacia. Today, Salaj County is well-connected to the European road, linking Cluj, Satu-Mare, and Petea Vama. Additionally, it boasts notable educational institutions, including schools, high schools, and authorized colleges.
