Welcome to Yushu, a town nestled in the heart of the traditional Kham Area. Its vibrant atmosphere reflects a diverse mix of cultures, with the majority of its residents belonging to the Tibetan Chinese community, while Han Chinese merchants add their own unique flavor to the vibrant tapestry of daily life. With a population exceeding 250,000, this town buzzes with energy and embraces the traditions of its Tibetan roots, despite being located outside the Tibet Autonomous Region. Yushu is a place that has endured great challenges, as on a fateful morning in April 2010, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck the town, claiming the lives of over 2,000 people. However, the strength and resilience of its people prevailed, and in 2017, the city stands tall once again, fully rebuilt and restored to its former glory. Although you may spot some minor construction works as you explore, they are mere reminders of the past and pose no hindrance to your visit. Come and experience the spirit of Yushu—a place where history intertwines with hope and resilience.
