Wrzburg, a city founded in the 10th century, has a rich history as the home of powerful prince-bishops. One of its most famous structures is the Festung Marienberg, a fortress that surrounds one of the oldest churches in Germany. The city is also renowned for its Residence, considered one of the most magnificent palaces in Europe and a prime example of Baroque art. As a UNESCO cultural world heritage site, Wrzburg's architecture is a sight to behold.

Despite the city's storied past, Wrzburg has faced its fair share of challenges. During World War II, the city experienced devastating bombings that destroyed 80% of its buildings. While much of the city has been rebuilt, the restoration may not be as faithful to the original architecture as some other historic German communities. Modernistic houses now stand alongside the restored buildings, creating a unique juxtaposition.

Wrzburg has had a significant American influence since post-World War II reconstruction when it became home to a large US military base. This has led to many locals being familiar with American customs. However, in 2006, it was announced that the military base would be closing, causing the city to lose most of its American presence.
