Ready to explore South Africa? Here are the routes to follow from Johannesburg or Pretoria: From Johannesburg: - Follow the N1 towards Pretoria. Remember to stay on the left after exit 112 (Brakfontein/Old Pretoria road) as the N1 and N14 merge. - Pay attention to the speed limit between exit 128 (John Foster) and exit 136 (Rigel Ave) - it's reduced to 100km/h with static cameras in place. - Continue on the N1 until it meets the N4 at the Proefplaas Interchange, shortly after exit 141 (M6 Lynwood Rd). Keep to the left and follow the N4 signs towards Witbank. From Pretoria: - Take the N4 east towards Witbank. This toll road offers a smooth and scenic drive, with an average travel time of around 1 hour. Don't miss the impressive swallows nest construction on one of the overpasses. - Look out for the Middelburg toll gate after passing through Witbank. - Stay on the N4 and pass by Belfast on your way to Machadodorp. If you need a break, stop at Milly's just before Macahodorp. - As you enter Machadodorp, the speed limit decreases, so be mindful of speed traps. - Soon after Machadodorp, you'll reach the Machado toll gate. Keep in mind that heavy fog may be encountered between Witbank and Machadodorp during the winter months.
