Get in
If you're looking to visit this incredible destination, the closest town with an airport is Alice Springs, which is about 300 km Northwest. To get there, you have a few options. By car, the easiest route is to take the sealed access from the Stuart Highway, which connects Alice Springs to Adelaide. From there, you can take the Luritja Road leading to Uluru. Don't worry about getting lost, as the road is well signposted. It takes about 4 to 5 hours from Alice Springs and 3 to 4 hours from Uluru. If you have a 4WD, you can also take the Ernst Giles Road to save some kilometers. Another option is to approach from the North via Glen Helen and the Mereenie Loop Road, but keep in mind that you'll need a day permit for this route. This route will also allow you to stop at the Tnolara (Goose Bluff) meteor crater. Just make sure to fuel up in Yulara before heading that way, as fuel prices along the route can be quite high! If you prefer to travel by bus, there are various operators in Alice Springs that offer short trips to King's Canyon or even combined 3-day trips with Uluru.
