In fact, the most recent explosion in 2001 launched rocks as far as the visitor center, injuring a tourist and damaging several vehicles. Get in

If you're up for an adventure, the entrance to the park is waiting for you at the KM23 marker on the Carretera a Masaya. It's just a quick 15-minute drive from Managua, and if you don't have a car, no worries! There are frequent buses between Managua and Granada that will take you right to the entrance. However, if you're not an avid hiker, getting up the mountain might be a bit tricky without a car. For those staying in Masaya, the park is conveniently located down the Carretera. You can catch a budget-friendly bus there for only 8 Cordoba. Just make sure to let the bus driver know that you want to get off at the park entrance. If you're feeling fancy, you can also take a cab from Masaya for 150 Cordoba, and they'll drop you off right at the tourist office. But keep in mind, you'll still need to find a way up to the volcano, which can be quite a long walk unless you're lucky enough to catch a ride with someone.
