Vang Vieng is situated on Highway #13, which connects Vientiane and Luang Prabang. The town is approximately 6-8 hours by bus from Luang Prabang and around 3-4 hours from Vientiane, depending on road and bus conditions. Highway #13 is a two-lane road that can be bumpy in certain areas but is generally manageable. The stretch between Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang offers breathtaking mountainous scenery and glimpses into Lao village life. On the other hand, the road between Vang Vieng and Vientiane is flatter and less captivating.
