Welcome to Tvrdosin, the district town in the North of Slovakia. Located at the confluence of the rivers Orava and Oravica, Tvrdosin is a place with a long history. The very name Tvrdosin comes from ancient Slavic times, representing a strong and fortified settlement. Throughout the centuries, Tvrdosin has played important roles as a transportation junction, both by waterways, roads, and even railways. Its history is recorded in charters and documents, dating back to 1111 and 1265, where Tvrdosin is mentioned under different names. Despite facing challenges and hardships, such as foreign armies, political instability, and fires, the town persevered, with inhabitants making a living from agriculture, cattle breeding, and linen-making. Tvrdosin became the center of a district in 1777 and experienced ups and downs in its development. However, in the 20th century, industrial enterprises started to emerge, bringing new life to the town. Today, Tvrdosin is a town with a unique past, ready to be discovered and explored.
