Understand
Welcome to the marine park in Sabah, under the administration of the Sabah Parks authority. This park is a designated protected area, aimed at preserving the natural beauty of the islands while providing a wonderful experience for tourists. However, due to the high influx of visitors, the once pristine coral reefs have been damaged, and the beaches are unfortunately littered with rubbish. But don't worry, efforts are being made to address these issues and restore the park to its former glory.
Get in
Ready for an adventure at the TAR Marine Park? Getting there is a breeze! Head to the Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal in Kota Kinabalu, along Jalan Fuad Stephens. There, you'll find hourly speedboat rides to the marine park. Once inside the terminal, you'll be greeted by various tour boat companies vying for your attention. Pick the one that suits you best, and get ready for an unforgettable experience. The prices are fixed, so no need to worry about haggling. It costs RM17 per person for each island you visit, and that includes the return trip to Jesselton Point. Before departing, remember to pay the compulsory Tariff Fee of RM6 per person at the Jesselton Point Terminal. Upon arrival at the first island, there's also an Environmental Conservation Fee of RM10 per person. Please beware of unscrupulous vendors who may collect this fee before departure and keep the money for themselves. The speedboat ride to the islands takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on which one you choose. You have the flexibility to spend as little as an hour or the entire day on one island. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even hop between islands! Just make sure to purchase the right amount of trips at the terminal. The islands are popular among tourists throughout the week, and locals flock to them on weekends. Keep in mind that the further you venture from the main island, the more secluded and less crowded the beaches become. If tranquility is what you seek, consider staying overnight on one of the islands. Just be aware that it can be a bit pricey. So, what are you waiting for? Start planning your trip to the TAR Marine Park and get ready for an amazing island-hopping adventure!
