Get in
Let me tell you about an amazing way to explore Cuba - Viazul buses! These buses are a great way to travel around the country and they have convenient schedules. They offer three daily services from Havana, stopping at Cienfuegos, and a daily service from Santiago de Cuba, stopping at Holguin, Camaguey, and Sancti Spiritus. The cost of a ticket is just 25CUC as of January 2016. But wait, there's more! If you're planning a trip to Varadero, you'll be delighted to know that there is a service that stops at Santa Clara and Cienfuegos. It's not listed on the Viazul website, so keep this insider tip in mind. This service departs Varadero at 7:30AM and returns from Trinidad at 2:25PM. If you prefer a more personalized experience, consider taking a taxi. Unofficial taxis can be just as effective as Viazul buses, and they may even cost the same or slightly more per person. You can easily find other travelers to share the taxi with at Plaza Vieja. Just approach a driver and ask around. You'll shorten your travel time and enjoy a more comfortable ride. It's a preferred method of travel, especially if you're accompanied by children. When it comes to traveling between Cienfuegos and Trinidad, your options are limited to Viazul and Collectivos. Taxis are available at approximately 6 CUC per person. However, for other destinations, Trinidad is well-connected. There are trucks and guaguas that depart from Sancti Spiritus almost every hour and cost around 30 CUP, making them 25 times cheaper than Viazul. You can find the trucks at the intermunicipal terminal in Sancti Spiritus. And if you're feeling adventurous, consider taking the local buses, just make sure to blend in with the locals. Please note that Trinidad has not been connected to the rest of Cuba by train since 1992 due to a hurricane destroying an essential bridge. However, there is a local train running to the Valle de los Ingenios. So hop on a Viazul bus or a taxi and enjoy your Cuban adventure!
