Welcome to Toprak Kale, the magnificent excavated town that dates back to the 1st to 5th century AD! Considered the most important monument of Chorezm from the Kushan time, this ancient town is a treasure waiting to be explored. Imagine the grandeur of a ground plan measuring 500m x 300m, surrounded by a towering wall made of bricks, reaching heights of 10 to 15m. As you wander through the town, you'll be awed by the impressive King's Palace situated in the northwestern part. Perched on an elevated base, it rises about 15m above the rest of the town, providing stunning views. Don't miss the three monumental towers that still stand, reaching a height of 25m. Venture to the temple area in front of the palace, where the sacred fire once burned. Discover the town's intriguing layout, with streets dividing it into several districts. Marvel at the blocks of dwellings, housing 150 to 200 rooms each. One of the highlights is the King's Hall, covering an impressive area of 280 square meters. Prepare to be amazed by the artistry displayed within Toprak Kale. The ruins reveal breathtaking wall paintings and monumental clay sculptures, created by a talented school of arts. These masterpieces developed a distinct Chorezmian style influenced by Graceo-Bactrian art. While exploring, keep an eye out for interesting artifacts. Many Kushan and Chorezm coins from the 2nd to the 5th century have been found here. You may also come across small copper discs adorned with portraits of the rulers of Chorezm.
