Understand
Tbilisi, the heart of eastern Georgia, rests in the foothills of the awe-inspiring Trialeti mountain range. Legend has it that this ancient city was founded by King Vakhtang Gorgasali in the 5th century after a fortuitous hunting excursion. While pursuing a pheasant, the king's arrow caused the bird to land in a natural hot spring, where it was either cooked or miraculously healed. This mystical encounter inspired King Gorgasali to establish a city on this very spot, giving birth to Tbilisi. The city's name originates from the Georgian word "tbili," meaning "warm." Despite enduring destruction and reconstruction on numerous occasions, Tbilisi's Old Town still retains its enchanting allure, featuring narrow alleyways and stunningly eccentric houses surrounding picturesque courtyards.
