The breathtaking canyon stretch located in Montenegro is a protected area within Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Tara River carves its way through the canyon, creating a mesmerizing landscape that has earned the nickname "Montenegrin Colorado." This river boasts a series of picturesque waterfalls and cascades, thanks to its mean fall of 3.6 meters/kilometer. The Tara River is nourished by several tributaries, including Ljutica, Susica, Vaskovaska Rijeka, and Draga. One of the most remarkable sources is Bajlovica Sige, which pours into the Tara River with a magnificent thirty-meter height and a width of over a hundred and fifty meters. The sound of the cascades echoes throughout the canyon, with more than forty cascades in total. Some of the famous ones include Djavolje Lazi, Sokolovina, Bijeli Kamen, Gornji Tepacki Buk, and Donji Tepacki Buk. The purity of the water and the unique ecological system of Tara led to its recognition as an ecological biosphere reservation of the World in 1977 under the "Men and Biosphere" program.
