Welcome to Staritsa, a small town with a rich history that stretches back to its days in the principality of Tver. Annexed by Moscow in 1485, Staritsa once thrived as its own principality, led by rulers like Vladimir of Staritsa. Though the town gradually lost its prominence, remnants of its former glory can still be seen. Despite periods of neglect and occupation, Staritsa perseveres with a collection of magnificent churches. Although some of them are in decay, a notable exception is the beautifully restored and reopened Dormition Monastery. This architectural marvel stands as the main highlight and a compelling reason to visit Staritsa, immersing yourself in its captivating past.
