When it comes to traveling to this region, the only airport with scheduled commercial service is located in Silver City. Although the commuter service to Albuquerque is limited, it is still an option for travelers. Alternatively, the nearest significant airports are in Albuquerque and El Paso, Texas. If you prefer to travel by land, Interstate highway 25 is the main route that passes through the region, connecting Albuquerque to Las Cruces. You can also choose to take a bus, which follows the same route, with some interesting detours into small towns. For those who prefer train travel, Amtrak's Los Angeles - New Orleans Sunset Limited route passes through the region, making stops at Deming and Lordsburg. When it comes to crossing the border from Mexico, there are limited options. The crossings in the region itself are at Santa Teresa in Doña Ana county and Columbus in Luna county. However, much more traffic enters from Juarez near El Paso. Keep in mind that there are checkpoints along the major arteries where the Border Patrol may conduct checks. As long as you abide by the laws, you should have a smooth journey.
