Get in
The Mekong delta is conveniently located near Ho Chi Minh City, making it easy to access by road. The city of Can Tho is only a 4-hour drive away from Ho Chi Minh City. While there is only one main road, it can get crowded at times. There are also flights available between Ho Chi Minh City and Rach Gia, as well as between Ho Chi Minh City and the beautiful island of Phu Quoc. Alternatively, you can reach Rach Gia by boat or plane from Phu Quoc.
In the past, there used to be hydrofoil connections from Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho, and then to Can Tho, but unfortunately, this option is no longer available. However, you can still enjoy speed boat transfers or take cruises from Cai Be to Can Tho, which offer a unique and untouched nature experience.
The Mekong delta also serves as a natural passage from southern Vietnam to Cambodia. You can enter Cambodia overland or by river, but it's important to note that not all entry points offer visas on arrival for Cambodia. Visas for Vietnam must be obtained in advance.
If you're coming from Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital, you can embark on a boat-bus journey to the charming town of Chau Doc. Another option is to cross the border from Kampot in southern Cambodia to Ha Tien. Bus connections are also now available between Phnom Penh and Can Tho, making travel between the two cities more convenient.]
