Upon arrival at Puerto Plata airport, you will be greeted by a lively band playing colorful music. This vibrant atmosphere sets the tone for the exciting adventure that awaits you! As you make your way through customs and immigration, you will need to purchase a tourist card for $10US. Please check the date on the stamp in your passport, as it may not always be accurate. Don't worry about arguing, just keep moving forward. After collecting your baggage, brace yourself for a bustling crowd of vendors, money changers, and taxi drivers. However, be cautious as prices at the airport tend to be higher than in town. Take in the unique experience but refrain from spending money here. Instead, make your way to your driver or hire a taxi to embark on the next thrilling chapter of your arrival. Although Puerto Plata International Airport may seem closer to Puerto Plata, it's actually about 7 km away from Sosa. The fixed taxi fare from the airport is $25US per car, with limited room for negotiation. Beware of drivers asking for $20US per person and seek out an honest driver instead. If you don't have much luggage and it's daytime, you can even opt for a safe 1/4 mile walk outside the airport to flag down a guagua (public mini-bus) or public taxi, which may cost as low as 30-40 pesos. If you prefer a bus journey, Caribe Tours buses provide a comfortable and modern option to travel from Sosa to Santo Domingo. The approximately 5-hour trip includes stops in major cities and towns. Enjoy the journey with air conditioning, movies, and restroom facilities. A one-way ticket typically costs around RD$330 pesos. Remember, Sosa is the last stop on the route from Santo Domingo and the Caribe Tours bus station is conveniently located at the entrance to the Charamicos section of town. Buses depart every hour on the :20's, starting at 5:20 am from Sosa, and on the hour from Santo Domingo.
