During the early 15th century, the town of Sivakasi was established. Legend has it that a king, on his way back from Kasi with a precious lingam, took a rest under the sacred tree of Shiva. To his surprise, a cow carrying the lingam refused to move from that spot. The king, understanding it as a divine sign, decided to build a town where the cow had halted. Hence, Sivakasi got its name as the lingam was brought from Kasi. Today, it stands as a testament to Hindu heritage and spirituality.
