Understand
In the year 1207, the Livonian Order seized control of these lands, only to have them divided amongst the Brothers of the Sword and Bishop Albert of Riga. Two strategic brick castles were constructed along the shores of the Gauja River to safeguard the property from each other and from potential attacks by local Baltic tribes. Over time, these castle settlements evolved into the charming villages of Sigulda, Turaida, and Krimulda. Today, Sigulda serves as the administrative center of Gauja National Park, with Turaida being a part of Sigulda town but separated by the majestic Gauja river. Additionally, Krimulda, boasting majestic castle ruins and the fascinating Prince Lievens Classic style manor complex, is situated only 800m southwest of Turaida. For all your tourist needs, the Sigulda Tourism Information Centre (Sigulda Aizrauj) is here to assist you. Located at Auseka St 6, you can reach them at +371 679 71335, or even through Skype at Siguldastic. They are open from Monday to Sunday, 09:00-19:00, ready to provide you with top-notch service.
