Get in
Are you ready for an exciting adventure to Stone Forest in Kunming? Hop on the bus from East bus station for just 34RMB! Don't fall for other buses that may charge you 90RMB for the same trip. Keep in mind that as of a new rule in China since 2010, you may be required to show your passport or driver's license, but don't worry, most people don't get asked. As a non-Chinese person, I went through with no troubles! If you need help finding your bus, the tour guides in front of the train station can assist you, but remember, they'll add a 10% commission to your fare. If you're coming from the Kunming airport, you can also take one of the 8 buses to Shilin bus terminal for 45RMB. Another option is the train, which takes about 2 hours and costs 60RMB. For a faster option, take the high-speed D-class train from Kunming South (subway line 1) to Shilin West. It only takes 22 minutes and costs 18RMB. The train schedule is mostly in the morning or early afternoon, with return trips in the afternoon/evening. Once you arrive at Shilin West, you'll find plenty of local buses waiting to take you to the bus terminal. The bus ride takes about 50 minutes and costs 8RMB. Just make sure to catch the last bus back at 18:00 if you're planning to take the 19:00 train. Feeling adventurous? There's an unofficial back entrance to the park located about 2-3 km from the main entrance. Start from parking lot 3 next to the geology museum and follow the road downhill until it meets the main road. At the intersection, you'll find a field road on your left. Leave your car here if you have one. Follow the tire tracks on the field road, as it is commonly used by taxi drivers to drop off local visitors. Keep following the tracks until you reach a small cabin on your right. Cross the small river and continue walking uphill through some fields. Eventually, you'll arrive at the visitor platform next to "The eternal mushroom." Welcome to one of the quietest sections of the park! Just keep in mind that the free back entrance might not be available anymore, as they have built a guard house on the pathway. Guards in official uniforms now turn back visitors trying to sneak in for free. Tickets are checked at the entrance, in the park, and at the exit. While there are multiple cameras throughout the park, their purpose remains uncertain.
