Get in
Getting to Shaxi from either Lijiang or Dali is an adventure in itself. While there are no direct buses, fear not! There are various options to reach this charming town. If you're coming from Old Town Dali, you can hop on either bus number 4 or number 8 to Xiaguan. From there, a taxi will take you to the north bus station (ke yun bei zhan), where you can catch a long-distance bus to Jianchuan. The journey takes around 3 hours, depending on traffic and stops along the way. Another option is to flag down any of the buses heading to Shangri-La and get off in Jianchuan. Alternatively, you can also take advantage of a private shuttle service offered by the "Landscape" hostel in Dali. This convenient shuttle leaves twice a day, with stops in the center of Shaxi. If you're traveling from Old Town Lijiang, buses number 11 or number 8 will take you to the Lijiang long-distance bus station. From there, you can purchase a ticket to Jianchuan, which usually takes 1.5-2 hours. Once you arrive in Jianchuan, mini-bus services outside the bus station can whisk you away to Shaxi in just 45 minutes. Just be sure to arrive in Jianchuan early enough to ensure a comfortable journey. If all else fails, hitching a ride to Shaxi is also a possibility. However, with so many transportation options available, getting to Shaxi is an exciting part of your journey!
