When visiting Sepilok, most travellers choose to join a tour group. However, Sepilok is also accessible by personal transport such as cars or taxis. If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Sandakan. The road from Sandakan to Sepilok is well-signed, making it an easy journey for those who are self-driving. If you opt for a taxi, taking a Grab taxi from the Sandakan airport costs approximately 16MYR. Here are the bus options: - From Kota Kinabalu: Catch the bus to Sandakan from Inanam station in KK. The bus fare is around 33 MYR, and the journey takes about 5 hours. Inform the driver to drop you off at Sepilok. From the Sepilok entrance, you can take a taxi for 3 MYR per person to reach the park. - From Semporna: Take the Tung Ma bus to Sandakan, which costs approximately 40 MYR and takes 5 hours. From Sandakan, you can catch a taxi to Sepilok. - From Sandakan: The bus departs from the minibus station in Sandakan at 9:00. On public holidays and Sundays, there might be an additional trip at 8:00. The bus fare is 6 MYR one way. This bus goes directly to the Orangutan and Sun Bear Sanctuary in Sepilok. There are also other buses that can drop you at the junction in Sepilok, which is a 25-minute walk from the sanctuary.
