Welcome to Semporna, a town located at the tip of the Semporna Peninsula, nestled around the breathtaking Lahad Datu Bay. This area was once known as "Tong Talun" but was renamed "Labuan Semporna," meaning "perfect anchorage" in Malay, before finally being named Semporna. The population of Semporna is predominantly Bajau, known for their unique village stilted over the water along the coast. But that's not all – the sea around Semporna is home to the remarkable Bajau Laut, also known as Sea Gypsies or Pala'u. These seaborne nomads spend their lives on boats, venturing out to the coral reefs to make a livelihood from fishing. The Kadazan and Chinese groups also contribute to the ethnic diversity of Semporna. Visit the Semporna Ocean Tourism Centre at Jln Kastam, Taman Bandar Semporna, 91308 Semporna, Sabah, and unlock the wonders of this captivating town. Semporna enjoys almost year-round sunshine, with temperatures hovering around 23°C at night and 31°C during the day. The hottest months are April to June, while the sunniest months are April and May.
