Additionally, Capitol Hill has long been a hub for Seattle's alternative community. In the 1990s, it played a significant role in the birth of the country's grunge movement, attracting famous musicians like Kurt Cobain. Even today, Capitol Hill remains the heart of Seattle's independent music scene. The neighborhood boasts several major retail districts, each with its own unique character. Broadway, running from Broadway and Union up to Roy Street, offers a vibrant nightlife and urban charm.
