Get in
Sault Ste. Marie is a charming city located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. If you're coming from the south, you can easily reach Sault Ste. Marie via Interstate 75, the same highway that connects Lower Michigan to the Upper Peninsula through the iconic Mackinac Bridge. As you approach Sault Ste. Marie, you have two exits to choose from. The first exit, 3 Mile Road, takes you through the heart of the town via Business I-75. This route allows you to explore the main street, Ashmun Street, and eventually leads you to Portage Avenue and the famous Soo Locks. The second exit, Easterday Avenue, brings you directly to Lake Superior State University to the east or Portage Ave. and the Locks to the west. While this route may not be as well-marked and takes you through some old industrial areas, it presents a unique perspective of the city. If you choose to cross the border into Canada, proper identification such as a passport, passport card, or Enhanced Driver's License will be required. The Sault Ste. Marie Michigan airport is conveniently located about 22 miles south of town, offering shuttle bus and rental car services.
