Situated between the vibrant Shimonoseki to the west and the charming Ube to the east, this area experienced rapid development in the 20th century due to its coal mining and cement industries. The formation of Sanyo-Onoda itself occurred in 2005, with the merger of Onoda City and Sany Town.
