There are various options for public transportation in and around Santa Teresa. The town is well-connected to neighboring cities such as Cobano, Montezuma, and Mal Pais. You can access these places by taking a direct bus or renting a car or ATV. If you're arriving from San Jose, you can also catch a connecting flight to Tambor. Nature Air and Sansa Airlines serve Tambor, and from there, you can take a private shuttle to Santa Teresa. The shuttle service provided by Tambor Adventure is a popular choice, as it takes around 45 minutes to reach Santa Teresa from the Tambor airport. If you prefer to drive from the San Jose airport, there are two routes you can take. The first option is to drive to Puntarenas and take a ferry from there to Paquera. The ferry costs $24 per car and $1.80 per person and departs at 7am, 11am, 3pm, and 8pm. After the ferry ride, you'll need to drive the remaining way to Santa Teresa. Keep in mind that the road has potholes, and the last 5km stretch is unpaved and bumpy. It's recommended to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle for this route. The second option is to drive around the bay of Nicoya, but be aware that the road from Naranja to Paquera (24km) is unpaved and rocky, making for a long and challenging drive. Whether you choose to take public transportation or drive yourself, Santa Teresa is well-connected and offers convenient options for getting around the area.
