Experience the vibrant atmosphere of this bustling city, with nearly 1.4 million passengers arriving annually in cruise ships alone. The busiest docks are located on the south side of the area, near the city bus station. There is also another pier adjacent to the old Pan American airport, which primarily handles Royal Caribbean cruise ships. However, reaching this pier will require a car or taxi ride. The majority of cruise ships dock at Old San Juan, allowing you to easily explore the historic district. To reach your pier from San Juan/Luis Muoz Marn Airport, you can take a convenient $20 cab ride. It is highly recommended to arrive at Viejo San Juan at least a day before your cruise ship embarks to ensure a stress-free journey, especially in case of any airline troubles. This will also give you ample time to explore the sights and attractions in San Juan, which are conveniently located near your hotel. While it may not be easy to drive or park within the district due to narrow streets, there is ferry service available from across the harbor. For those staying at major hotels outside Viejo San Juan, you can arrange day tours with the concierge. Just keep in mind that during busy times, drivers may refuse passengers with significant luggage. To get around the city, you can also consider taking the city bus to and from Viejo San Juan.
