Saltburn is a charming seaside town that was founded in 1861 by the visionary entrepreneur Henry Pease. Inspired by a heavenly city described in the Book of Revelation, Pease transformed Saltburn into a place of beauty and elegance. The town's seafront is lined with a collection of streets known as the "jewel streets," including Coral, Garnet, Ruby, Emerald, Pearl, Diamond, and Amber Streets. These streets are a testament to Pease's vision and have become an iconic part of the town. One of the notable landmarks in Saltburn is The Zetland Hotel, which was one of the world's earliest purpose-built railway hotels and even had its own private platform. Another trace of the Pease family's legacy can be found in the "Pease brick," a distinctive feature found in many homes in Saltburn, with the name "Pease" proudly displayed. The Pease family also had a grand residence at the junction of Marine Parade and Milton Street. Saltburn has been home to some remarkable individuals. Malcolm Campbell, a legendary figure in motorsport, set his first speed record on the famous Saltburn Sands. The talented musician David Coverdale, known for his work with Deep Purple and Whitesnake, was born and raised in Saltburn. The town is also proud to claim George Hardwick, a renowned footballer, and Tony Mowbray, an accomplished former footballer and current Celtic manager, as natives. Saltburn has a rich history and vibrant community that continues to thrive to this day. It is a place where the past meets the present and where the dreams of visionaries like Henry Pease have left a lasting mark.
