Escape the chaos of Kolkata and embark on a journey to Sagardwip, a place of tranquility and beauty located 135 km away. Although Sagardwip is not directly connected to Kolkata, this adds to the sense of adventure that awaits you. Start by catching a bus bound for Kakdwip from Esplanade to Harwood Point (Lot No. 8). Enjoy a scenic ride for about three hours, passing Diamond Harbour along the way. Once you arrive at Harwood Point, cross the magnificent river Muriganga by boat and reach the charming village of Kachuberia. From there, hop on a bus or a trekker and prepare for an unforgettable hour-long journey through picturesque landscapes to finally arrive at Sagardwip. Minibuses and hired cars are also available for your convenience.

If you're looking for a different route, you can take a bus from Kolkata to Namkhana (105 km). From Namkhana, embark on a launch and cross the river Muriganga until you reach Chemaguri. Next, hop on a bus for a short 10-kilometer ride to Gangasagar. Boats from Harwood Point and Kachuberia depart every hour, offering you flexibility and convenience throughout your expedition.

Note that if you plan your visit during Makar Sankranti in January, be prepared for a rush of people. But don't let that discourage you! Before you board the ferry, make sure to check if the service is running. Remember, there might be a temporary halt in ferry operations between 4 am to 9 am in the morning and 4 pm to 8 pm in the evening during the Makar Sankranti period. With some careful planning, you can make the most of your visit and avoid any unnecessary crowds.
