Rockhampton, established in 1855, is one of Queensland's oldest cities. It got its name from Mr. W. Wiseman, Queensland's first Land Commissioner, who was inspired by the rocks in the river flowing through the town. With the discovery of nearby gold in the late 1800s, the region experienced economic growth, leading to the development of mining, grazing, farming, and meat processing industries. As a result, Rockhampton became a thriving regional service center. In 1902, Rockhampton officially became a city and has been steadily growing ever since. Today, it has a population of approximately 59,000. Surprisingly, Rockhampton feels more like a developed city than an outback town due to its bustling traffic and substantial suburban area. Nearly every business in Rockhampton incorporates "Rocky" in their name or promotion.
