Originally founded in the XVI century, this town has a rich history intertwined with mining, football, and delicious regional cuisine. Silver extraction has been the lifeblood of this town since colonial times. The XIX century marked the peak of the silver industry, and many of the town's attractions date back to this prosperous era. The influence of Cornish immigrants, who arrived in the XIX century, can still be seen throughout the town. After the Cornish, the mines were owned by Americans and later by Mexicans after nationalization. Unfortunately, the decline of the mining industry occurred during the XX century, leading to the abandonment of most mining infrastructure. However, these abandoned sites have been restored and transformed into tourist destinations. The town proudly boasts being the birthplace of football in the American continent, introduced by the Cornish immigrants. It is also known for being the location of the first workers' strike in the continent. Today, tourism is the main activity in town and serves as a symbol of the strong Anglo-Mexican relations.
