Qiqihar, a thriving city with a population of 1.5 million, has a captivating history that dates back to 1691 when it was founded as a walled city. Initially, only the Manchu people were allowed to reside here, but over time, the city transformed and became predominantly inhabited by the Hans. The establishment of the Chinese Eastern Railway in 1903 transformed Qiqihar into a bustling transportation hub, connecting people and goods. In the early 20th century, the city played a significant role as a military base during the Japanese occupation from 1931 to 1945, which contributed to its growth and importance. Today, Qiqihar consists of Longsha District, Tiefeng District, and Jianhua District, with the prefecture encompassing four districts, eight counties, and one city.
