Qingchengshan, an ancient cradle of Taoism in China, is a majestic mountain complex filled with Taoist and Buddhist temples. The paths that wind up to its peaks offer a serene and tranquil experience (despite occasional tourist crowds and noisy bus horns). For a more peaceful hike, start at the back entrance, which is less crowded and leads to over 80km of lush and vibrant hiking paths. You may even come across small chairlifts along the way. One of China's remarkable engineering feats is the Dujiangyan Irrigation system. Before its construction, flash flooding was a constant threat due to the fast-flowing Min River. This innovative system, built over 2,200 years ago by engineer Li Bing and his son, tamed the river and provided essential irrigation for the surrounding lands.
