Punta de Choros, a quaint fishing village located about 100 km north of La Serena, is a hidden gem that comes alive with tourists during the summer and retreats to serenity during the winter months. Its main attraction is the National Humboldt Penguin Reserve, where visitors can witness the captivating Humboldt penguins, playful bottlenose dolphins, graceful sea lions, adorable sea otters, and a variety of stunning seabirds. While sea lions can be spotted all year round, dolphin sightings are frequent yet not guaranteed. During the summertime, the penguins showcase their active hunting and swimming behaviors. However, in the winter, they nest high up in the rocky cliffs, making it more challenging to observe them from the boats.
