Bansko, the popular ski resort, is an important gateway to the Pirin range. If you're looking for another entry point, consider Sandanski which is equally stunning but unfortunately lacks information in this article. Please update if you have any knowledge about it! To reach Bansko without breaking the bank, consider taking the train from Plovdiv or Sofia. You'll need to transfer at Septemvri station, but the whole trip should only cost around 10 lv. The train journey offers breathtaking views of the mountains, so make sure to check the schedule and enjoy the breeze from the train car door. There are four connections from Septemvri to Bansko each day. If time is of the essence, you can opt for a quicker bus ride from Sofia central bus station. Buses heading to Gotse Delchev make stops in Bansko and the journey takes approximately three hours. The cost is 15 leva each way and there is a short break at Blagoevgrad along the way. For those planning to hike in the area, reaching the Banderitsa or Vihren huts/chalets from Bansko might require hiring a taxi, joining a tour, or hitchhiking. During summer, there is also a minibus that runs between Bansko and Vihren hut, with multiple stops along the way. However, the best option for budget-conscious independent travelers is to hitchhike. Walking south from the train or bus stations will lead you to the entrance of the Pirin National Park, where you can easily hitch a ride with domestic tourists heading towards the camps.
