Understand
Pingxiang, also known as "duckweed village," is a city in Jiangxi Province, located on the western edge and bordering Hunan Province. While it may be called a "city," it is different from the western concept of a continuous urban area. With a total area of 1,478 square miles, Pingxiang is primarily a bustling commercial and transportation hub. With a population of 1.8 million, only a quarter of the residents live in the urban area. The city consists of two urban districts, Anyuan and Xiangdong, along with three surrounding counties – Lianhua, Shangli, and Luxi. The largest urban area is in Anyuan district, offering various attractions. Although Pingxiang has not been considered a tourist destination, efforts are being made to showcase its natural beauty, significant events in early CCP history, and minority culture. It is important to note that the city is still in the early stages of attracting tourists, so limited English is spoken.
