Just keep in mind that Munising is a charming place but, like many small tourist destinations, there are a few tacky souvenir shops and tourist traps to be aware of. If you're looking for more diversity in terms of accommodation, shopping, and cuisine, you may want to consider staying in Marquette, which is located about an hour west of Munising and has a population of around 21,000. Marquette offers a wider range of options and even formal and upscale dining choices for those seeking a more refined experience.

Embarking on an expedition to the picturesque town of Munising offers a variety of routes to suit your travel needs. If you are traveling from the West, starting from the stunning cities of Marquette, Houghton/Hancock, Northern Wisconsin, or Minnesota, your path should take you along U.S. 41 South. Upon reaching the town of Harvey, make a left turn at the junction with M-28 and follow this route for approximately 45 miles until you reach Munising. For those arriving from the East, whether you are venturing from the captivating Sault Ste. Marie, Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, or the Lower Peninsula, your journey will require traveling West on M-28. This road can be accessed via exit 386 on 1-75. M-28 leads you directly to Munising, but if you wish to explore the lakeshore via Grand Marais at the Eastern end, you will need to make a right turn on M-77 in the town of Seney, which is around 36 miles East of Munising. Follow M-77 North for 25 miles to reach the charming town of Grand Marais. Travelers venturing from the South, enchanting destinations such as Escanaba, Green Bay, or Chicago, should follow US-41 North. This route will guide you until you reach the town of Trenary, approximately 35 miles North of Escanaba. At Trenary, turn right onto M-67 and continue for about 12 miles until you reach Chatham. From Chatham, make a right turn onto M-94. Continue along this road until it intersects with M-28, where you should turn left towards Munising. Once you arrive in Munising, most of the hotels, rental shops, and boat cruises are conveniently situated. If your destination is the park headquarters, follow M-28 into Munising and continue straight if arriving from the West, or turn right if coming from the East or South, at the flashing yellow light. This road will transform into Munising Avenue/M-58. Continue for approximately 1 mile, then make a left turn onto Washington Street. Gradually, Washington Street will transition into Sand Point Road, where you will pass by the intriguing Alger County Heritage Center. Journey alongside this road for about 3 miles until you reach the end, where the park headquarters are located.
