Penedo, a picturesque town in Brazil, was founded by Finnish immigrants in 1929. Led by Toivo Uuskallio, a visionary, they aimed to create a harmonious community that lived in harmony with nature and followed a strict vegan diet. Uuskallio and his wife Liisa arrived in Rio de Janeiro and embarked on a journey to find the perfect place for their settlement. After exploring various farms and properties, they came across Fazenda Penedo, a vast estate owned by the Saint Benedict's Monastery. Despite the challenges posed by depleted soil and voracious sava ants, the settlers persevered and transformed the land into a thriving community. Today, Penedo stands as a testament to their determination and love for nature.
