Step into history with Parnamirim, a city with a fascinating past. In 1927, Portuguese land owner Manuel Machado selflessly donated a portion of his land to a French aviation company, turning it into an airport for aviation pioneers to soar in the skies.
During World War II, this airport became a strategic base for the Americans, and today it serves as a vital hub for the Brazilian Air Force and international travelers.
Since the 1990s, Parnamirim has experienced rapid growth as Natal, its neighboring city, expands towards the south. This urban expansion has led to the merging of the two cities, with only the airport and the Barreira do Inferno launch center standing as a reminder of their former separation.
