Understand
Prepare to be enchanted by the tropical archipelago of Yongxing Island. Located one-third of the way from central Vietnam to the northern Philippines, this group of 130 small coral islands and reefs is surrounded by vibrant fishing grounds and potential oil and gas reserves. In 1932, the islands were annexed by French Indochina who set up a weather station. Since 1974, China has occupied the Paracel Islands, claiming them as their own, while they are also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan.
