Papeete, while not your typical tropical paradise, offers a unique blend of French and Polynesian charm. This bustling government center and industrial port may not have the grandest hotels, but it makes up for it with its vibrant shopping, dining, and drinking scene. As the capital city, Papeete may not have an abundance of sightseeing opportunities, but its cultural fusion and friendly locals more than make up for it. While French and Tahitian are the primary languages spoken, you'll find that many in the tourist trade also speak English.
