Palolem, located in the beautiful coastal region of Goa, is renowned for its stunning beaches. Nestled between towering headlands, this natural bay boasts a serene and picturesque shoreline. With its gently sloping bed, you can walk up to 100m out from the beach and immerse yourself in the tranquil sea. However, it's important to note that Palolem has become quite popular among travelers, leading to some challenges. The influx of visitors has brought along persistent hawkers and overpriced sellers, making it a less peaceful experience. At high tide, the beach becomes crowded with restaurants extending into the crashing waves, creating obstacles for those strolling along the shore. Additionally, restaurant owners may frequently approach you, eager to know your dinner plans. For a more relaxed alternative, consider visiting Patnem. Located south of Palolem, this charming spot offers a laid-back atmosphere with fewer developments. Despite its quieter vibe, Patnem still provides ample options for dining, accommodations, bars, and a few shops to cater to your needs.

Get in

To reach Palolem, there are several transportation options available. The easiest way is to take a train to Margao (also known as Madgaon) or fly to Goa Dabolim Airport. From Margao or the airport, you can hire a fixed-price taxi that is approved by the government to take you directly to Palolem. Fixed-price taxis can be found at the train station and the airport in Vasco da Gama. If you prefer, you can also take a State Transport bus from Margao Bus Stand to Canacona or Palolem. The bus journey takes around 90 minutes and costs Rs. 40. If you get off at Canacona bus station, you can then take an autorickshaw or taxi to Palolem Beach, which is only about 3km away. The bus journey is comfortable and offers beautiful scenery along the way. However, do keep in mind that local buses in Goa are not air-conditioned and can get quite dusty and crowded. Walking from the bus station to Palolem is also an option, but may not be ideal on a hot sunny day due to the distance.
