Olympos, located in Turkey's Mediterranean south, offers a captivating mix of ancient ruins, idyllic beaches, and unique attractions such as treehouse accommodations and a mysterious flaming mountain. The modern "village" takes its name from the Lycian/Roman city that lies in ruins near the beach. This beach, in turn, is named after Mt. Tahtal, the highest mountain in the area, which was known as Olympos in ancient Greece. It is important to note that this Olympos is distinct from the mountain in Greece that was believed to be the abode of the Greek gods. Olympos used to be a haven for hippies, but with the completion of a road connecting it to the main highway, more people, including families with children, are now drawn to this enchanting destination. During summer weekends, the influx of day-trippers and night owls gives Olympos a lively resort town atmosphere. However, those who have known the village in its quieter moments affirm that during autumn, when most visitors have departed, Olympos regains its pristine beauty and tranquility.
