If you're planning to visit the northeastern states of India, the main entry point is Assam. From India, you can enter Assam easily. There is also an entry point from Bangladesh into Meghalaya, but it is restricted to local traders and government officials. Foreigners are allowed to enter from Myanmar into Manipur. However, entry into Arunachal Pradesh requires a special permit for non-Indians and Indian citizens. To make things easier, it's best to get an Indian visa with a special endorsement allowing travel in the state. In Sikkim, foreign travelers also need a Protected Area Permit, which can be obtained for free from Siliguri, Kolkata, and Delhi. Additionally, in Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland, foreigners are required to register with the Foreign Registration Office (FRO) of each district within 24 hours of arrival.
