Newark was also known for its steel foundry, producing stoves. Nowadays, Newark's major industries have shifted towards electronics and salt production. It has been home to tech giants like Sun Microsystems and Hewlett Packard. The Cargill salt company, previously known as Leslie Salt, also calls Newark home.
