The city of Neumnster, with its fascinating history, derives its name from the Latin term "novam monasterium" which means "new monastery". Established in 1127 as a monastery, Neumnster flourished during the latter half of the 19th century as a major industrial center. Industries such as iron works, leather and textiles, and railroad service workshops flourished here. Despite the devastation caused by allied bombings in World War II, Neumnster has reinvented itself as a modern hub of diverse industries. Today, it thrives as a commercial and transportation hub in the region of Schleswig-Holstein.
