Understand
The name Neumnster has an intriguing origin: it is derived from the Latin phrase "novam monasterium," meaning "new monastery." Initially established in 1127 as a humble religious enclave, this city experienced remarkable growth in the latter half of the 19th century, emerging as a bustling epicenter of various industries such as ironworks, leather and textile manufacturing, and railroad service workshops. Today, Neumnster boasts a modern and diverse economy, supported by a vibrant blend of industries. Sadly, during World War II, nearly 40 percent of the city was destroyed due to relentless bombings by the Allied forces, resulting in the absence of a historic district in the present day. Since the 19th century, Neumnster has thrived as a vital hub for both street and railroad transportation in Schleswig-Holstein.
